Community Clean-Up & Paint Positive Initiative

On the first Saturday of every month, the Moniba Foundation participates in a major clean up exercise within a different community. Activities include providing t-shirts, gloves and safety items, cleaning materials, and food for the community volunteers. Since this program started in 2019, the Moniba Foundation has participated in over 60 major clean up initiatives in the capital city of Monrovia and its environs.
Beginning in 2024, the Paint Positive Initiative will coincide with the Community Clean-Up
Almost two decades after Liberia’s disastrous civil war, the scars of bullet holes, underdevelopment and lack of upkeep are still prevalent throughout the streets and neighborhoods of its communities. Coupled with the structural damages, however, is the psychological impact that poverty, violence, and the lack of opportunities (both in education and in a career) can have on one’s emotional state. The Paint Positive Initiative aims to help to change this narrative by identifying and subsequently painting positive messages and images of hope, unity, nation building and self-confidence on abandoned and dilapidated walls throughout the communities of Liberia. The goal is to inspire thousands of people through beauty and artwork.

3-Steps to PAINT POSITIVE:
1. Collaborate with the youth leader in each of the identified communities to select a location.
2. Conduct a one-day civic education forum to discuss the importance of nation-building, commitment and service.
3. Provide materials and artists to transform the selected walls into an inspirational art piece, while using volunteers to clean up the community and its environs.
*Honor yourself, family member or organization, by sponsoring the full amount of a wall and training exercise in a community and have your/their name recognized in paint.
